Chapter 503 Liam’s Evolution
Chapter 503 Liam’s Evolution
The airport was surprisingly calm.
Large planes occasionally moved in the distance while airport staff went about their business without paying much attention to the people waiting under one of the canopies near the private jet section.
Liam stood with his hands inside the pockets of his dark coat as a cool breeze swept through the area.
Twenty minutes.
That was how long they had been waiting.
Not that Liam minded.
Just waiting.
He glanced at the watch on his wrist before slowly lifting his head toward the sky.
A second later his eyes narrowed slightly.
There.
A small smile appeared on his face.
"They’re here."
Ann immediately looked up.
"Huh?"
She scanned the sky.
Nothing.
Just clouds.
"What are you talking about?"
Beside her, Lana also lifted her head.
The scarf wrapped around the lower half of her face fluttered slightly in the wind as she looked around.
"Where?"
Liam pointed upward.
"Over there."
The two girls followed his finger.
Nothing.
At least nothing that they could see.
Liam couldn’t help but grin.
His vision had become ridiculous lately.
Ever since the recent system upgrade his eyesight had evolved alongside the rest of his abilities.
Distances that once looked impossible now seemed crystal clear.
Objects kilometers away appeared much closer.
Details stood out naturally.
The tiny dot moving through the clouds was obvious to him.
Unfortunately it wasn’t obvious to anyone else.
Ann squinted so hard that her face almost scrunched up.
"I still can’t see anything."
"It’s there."
"No it’s not."
"It is."
"It’s literally not."
Liam laughed.
Lana was having the same problem.
Even with her enhanced senses she couldn’t see what Liam was seeing yet.
Then after several seconds Ann suddenly froze.
"Oh."
"There."
Lana finally spotted it too.
A tiny dark speck crossing the sky.
The private jet.
A smile appeared on Ann’s beautiful face.
"Wow."
She turned toward Liam.
"Your vision is really good."
Liam immediately looked pleased with himself.
"Proud of me?"
"A little."
"I’ll take it."
Ann rolled her eyes.
Liam looked genuinely pleased nonetheless.
Today he was dressed differently from his usual style.
The dark coat gave him a sharper appearance while the black shades covering his eyes made him look almost impossible to approach.
Combined with his height he looked more like some wealthy executive than a guy who regularly fought monsters and vampires.
Several people had already glanced at him while passing by.
Most quickly looked away afterward.
Ann on the other hand looked bright and effortless.
Her sundress danced gently with the wind, the light fabric moving around her legs while her curly hair framed her face beautifully.
She looked completely relaxed.
Like someone enjoying a vacation.
The kind of woman people naturally noticed without understanding why.
Then there was Lana.
The complete opposite.
Jeans.
Boots.
A fitted shirt.
A scarf covering her mouth and nose.
If someone didn’t know her they might think she was hiding from paparazzi.
Her green eyes remained visible above the scarf, calm and observant as she watched the approaching aircraft.
The outfit somehow suited her perfectly.
She looked mysterious.
Dangerous.
And very beautiful.
Liam looked between both women.
Then smiled.
Not bad.
Lana noticed immediately.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"You were smiling."
"I smile all the time."
"No you don’t."
"True."
Ann burst out laughing.
Liam ignored her.
The jet continued approaching.
As they waited, Ann suddenly remembered something.
"You said your system upgraded recently right?"
Liam nodded.
"Yeah."
"What changed?"
Lana also looked interested.
Now she was paying attention.
Liam thought about it.
Then shrugged casually.
"I can do new things."
"Such as?"
Liam answered so casually that neither of them expected it.
"I can see through walls now."
Silence.
Complete silence.
Ann blinked.
Lana blinked.
Neither moved.
"Huh?"
Liam nodded.
"Yeah."
"Huh?"
He nodded again.
"Yeah."
The silence somehow became worse.
Ann slowly looked at Lana.
Lana slowly looked at Ann.
Then both turned toward Liam at exactly the same time.
"You can what?"
"See through walls."
Liam said it like he was discussing the weather.
Ann stared.
Lana stared harder.
Meanwhile Liam continued.
"I’m also stronger."
Silence.
"Faster too."
Silence.
"My reaction speed increased."
Still silence.
Then Ann suddenly asked the most important question in her mind.
"Can you see through what I’m wearing?"
Liam froze.
Lana’s eyes immediately sharpened.
She hadn’t thought about that.
Now she was thinking about it.
Very seriously.
The two girls slowly turned toward him.
Their gazes were intense.
Very intense.
Liam immediately realized this conversation had become dangerous.
"Relax."
Neither relaxed.
Liam sighed.
"It doesn’t work like that."
Ann folded her arms.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
Lana tilted her head slightly.
"How sure?"
"Very sure."
"How very sure?"
Liam suddenly regretted opening his mouth.
"It only works on walls."
The girls continued staring.
Liam scratched his head.
"I think."
"You think?"
"Maybe."
Ann narrowed her eyes.
"Maybe?"
Liam immediately realized he was digging his own grave.
"I never actually tried."
That was the wrong answer.
The absolute wrong answer.
Ann gasped dramatically.
"You never tried?"
"No."
"But you thought about it."
"No."
"You definitely thought about it."
"I didn’t."
"You absolutely did."
Lana folded her arms too.
Now there were two interrogators.
Liam suddenly felt outnumbered.
"I genuinely didn’t."
Neither believed him.
Not even slightly.
Liam pointed toward the sky.
"Can we focus on the jet?"
"No."
"Why?"
Ann pointed at him.
"Because this is important."
"It is not important."
"It is extremely important."
Lana nodded.
"Very important."
Liam looked betrayed.
The two girls had completely united against him.
Again.
"Listen."
He raised both hands.
"I can’t see through clothes."
The girls remained unconvinced.
Liam sighed.
"Probably."
Ann’s eyes widened.
"Probably?"
"I mean definitely."
"That’s not what you said."
Liam closed his eyes.
He was losing this battle badly.
Then Ann pointed a finger directly at him.
"You better not try."
Liam laughed.
"I’m serious."
"I know."
"If I catch you staring at random girls..."
She narrowed her eyes dramatically.
"...I’ll murder you myself."
Liam stared at her.
Then slowly looked toward Lana for support.
Surely Lana would help.
Surely.
Lana immediately looked away.
Then started whistling innocently.
As if she had nothing to do with this conversation.
Liam couldn’t believe it.
"You too?"
The whistling became louder.
Ann nodded seriously.
"See?"
"See what?"
"Even Lana agrees."
Liam looked toward Lana again.
She refused to make eye contact.
The traitor.
Ann smirked.
Then leaned slightly closer.
"Pervert."
Liam nearly choked.
"What?"
"Pervert."
"I literally said I never tried."
"That’s exactly what a pervert would say."
Liam stood there speechless.
Completely speechless.
Meanwhile both girls looked extremely satisfied with themselves.
The private jet continued descending in the distance.
